1)  Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and background.

My name's Colleen, I hail from the Midwest, and my hobbies are sewing, writing, and studying languages.

2)  How long have you been costuming?  What kinds of experiences have you had?

I've loved costumes ever since I was old enough to pull on a tutu and a plastic tiara.  At first my mom made all my costumes, and then she taught me how to sew, so for the last six years I've been making everything myself.  You get a lot of weird looks, but you also get some compliments from cool people, and that makes it worth it.  Once I earned myself a backstage pass for showing up in costume, so that's my best story so far.

3)  What's your earliest memory of seeing
Return of the Jedi?

For as long as I can remember we had this horrible, horrible VHS of ROTJ.  It was taped off TV, it had commercials, some scenes were cut short, and the picture quality was so dark.  In the scene on Endor's moon, where black-clad Luke turns himself over to Darth Vader at night, you pretty much couldn't see anything at all.  But we watched it over and over.  I could say all the lines, do all the scenes.  And we didn't have either of the other movies, so it was just all ROTJ all the time.  I'll always think back on those days as I watch it now digitally remastered on DVD.

4)  When did you get your first "metal bikini" and what drove you to it?

I made my first bikini in 2007 after stumbling on LeiasMetalBikini.com.  As soon as I saw all these girls dressed in the costume, taking a risk and having a blast, I knew I just had to be one of them.  And when I saw there was going to be a photoshoot at Celebration IV, I knew I had a deadline.  It only took a few weeks thanks to some helpful tutorials, and it didn't cost much money, either.  It's made out of Crayola Clay, wire, foam, and paint.  Now that I've seen some more versions and pictures, I can think of things to tweak about it, but I'm still really happy that I managed to get one made and wearable in time to take part in this.  It was a total blast.

5)  What is your favorite memory of appearing as Slave Leia?

I've only done it once, at Celebration IV, but the whole experience was great.  Highlights were meeting some great people, such as Sarah, another Slave Leia, whom I got to hang out with and never would have met otherwise, and getting my picture taken with an awesome Luke in the classic "swinging-across-the-barge" pose.  Another memorable thing was, when I was walking down the hallway, one man looked at me pointedly, raised his eyebrows and said "When did THAT ever happen in Star Wars?"  Duh.  What movie was HE watching?

6)  If you danced for Jabba the Hutt, what song would you dance to and why?

"The Cantina Song".  Boring choice, I know, but it is just too classic.  I dance to it even when I'm not dressed up.

7)  Any final words?

Thanks to everyone on the site, especially
Jamin.  I never would have attempted the metal bikini without this place.  Not only does it provide information and reference material, it is also an inspiration to every girl whose childhood dream was to be chained to a slimy giant slug alien while wearing a metal bra.  Sometimes dreams do come true.

Thanks Colleen!
