| 1) Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and background. My name is Courtney and I am in school preparing to become a dietitian. Actually I'm quite into, well, nerding, for lack of a better word. MMOs, tabletop, systems, you name it. I've recently started getting into Warhammer 40K also. It's fun but the painting has been fairly time-consuming. I'm also into martial arts and have at least a working knowledge of a great variety. Capoeira is the next one I plan to look into. All that keeps me in pretty good shape, so that's a nice bonus. 2) How long have you been costuming? What kinds of experiences have you had? Besides just general Halloween costumes, this was my first real costuming experience. It was fantastic! I had so much fun running all around town. I'm looking at doing Harley Quinn this coming year, and seeing if I can't land a gig as a booth babe. 3) What's your earliest memory of seeing Return of the Jedi? I was very young the first time I saw it, and actually saw the movies out of order. I remember sitting wrapped up on the living room floor absolutely glued to the TV. After it was finished, I marched up to my mother and demanded to know why she hadn't put me into some kind of similiar training and didn't she know that was the kind of princess I would want to be! 4) When did you get your first "metal bikini" and what drove you to it? This was the first one. I was sitting around trying to think of all the different things I've ever wanted to dress up as for Halloween, writing them all down. I was finally in a financial situation where I had the extra money to really do all out. I do enjoy being the center of attention, and what could possibly draw more attention than Princess Leia? Her posters had graced my walls for years, it was my ultimate little girl dress up fantasy! So I made it happen!!!! 5) What is your favorite memory of appearing as Slave Leia? I had gone to dinner with a small group, also dressed up for Halloween, and we were waiting for a table to be cleared so we could sit down. Another group of Halloween-goers came in behind us. We exchanged "hellos", then proceeded to wait. One of the guys, blushing even through this make-up, quietly asked if I would take a picture with him. I was more than happy to oblige and insisted that he had to hold my chain for it. After I was finished he thanked me and went back to stand with his friends. Just a bit louder than the roar of the restaurant, I could hear him gushing about how that was his nerd fantasy come true, and that he hoped everyone's nerd dreams could come true. When you can do something so tiny and make someone light up like that, it's just an amazing experience!!!! 6) If you danced for Jabba the Hutt, what song would you dance to and why? Hmmmmmm.... probably "Sexy Back". The lyrics are just too perfect! 7) Any final words? I'd like to thank all the girls who have posted about how they made their bikinis. I can't tell you how much they helped me get started! And if you are thinking about dressing up as Leia, or an equally awesome costume, then do it!!! You only live once, so lapp up the attention and fun while you can! Thanks Courtney! |
