| 1) Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and background. Well, I started singing professionally from a very early age, particularly with the Washington Opera. Singing remains my most passionate hobby, culminating in my music video this past year which was also directed and produced by the makers of Pitching Lucas (www.hollandgedney.com). I also love acting, fashion, costuming, makeup, literature, travel, the beach, ....swimming at sunset. ;-) 2) How long have you been costuming? What kinds of experiences have you had? I've always had a flair for clothing - "It's like Halloween every day with Holland." ....to quote my friends over these many years. The costuming experience that "counts" however, probably most notably began a couple of years ago at college. I recieved my degree from the College of William and Mary in both English Literature and Theater. In the theatre department I thought I was going to concentrate on performance, but ended up being pulled in a different direction: Costumes and Makeup. I took several classes in these areas and spent some extra time in the costume shop getting sewing tips, and also worked with costumes and/or makeup for most of the mainstage productions while I was in attendance of the college. But really - my forte in costuming is more in designing and throwing together existing clothes in a way that I hope is interesting or applicable, rather than actual construction. 3) What's your earliest memory of seeing Return of the Jedi? I don't exactly have an earliest memory of seeing ROTJ. I feel like I actually sort of existed , from the beginning of my life, with the entirety of the movie - no, the trilogy! - firmly imprinted into my memory. And that's weird - because neither of my parents particularly like Star Wars. 4) When did you get your first "metal bikini" and what drove you to it? Okay, here is where I suppose I must expose myself as a fraud. I actually didn't make nor do I own my own metal bikini. In fact, though I had always secretly wished to be a metal-bikini-Leia, I never had intended on following through. In reality, I'm quite modest, though in an unconventional way, and tend to like to have all my skin covered (at least in fishnet) at all times. But when the director and producers of Pitching Lucas said they needed someone to be "Slave Leia" and asked me if I would be willing to do it.... I couldn't let down my friends! Besides, I owed them one. Or two. So, in spite of my former hesitations, I agreed. The costume was provided for me on set and I don't know anymore who it is that made it for her own personal Leia costume. The top was actually even a bit too small and, after the initial fitting, we had to reinforce the splitting sides with string. And that is my terrible confession. 5) What is your favorite memory of appearing as Slave Leia? Oh! What a difficult question. It was a happy day in general, and it all went by so quickly. 1) When I posed for a photo with Darth Vader - It just hit a geeky heartstring. And 2) When I heard laughter from the females off-set during the Rancor Pit scene, followed by the comment "Oh! I just love Bored Leia." I just couldn't have imagined that Leia would have been too into it. 6) If you danced for Jabba the Hutt, what song would you dance to and why? Probably the Charlie's Angels rendition of the Pink Panther theme (the one they "Stripped" to in the nightclub), complete with whip sounds, and most likely with a sound-bite addition of chains. 7) Any final words? May the Force be with You. Thanks Holland! |
