| 1) Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and background. I am in my late 20's, and my hobbies include filmmaking, reading, dancing, costuming, cross stitching, photography, and many other things. 2) How long have you been costuming? What kinds of experiences have you had? I made my first costume in the 2nd grade. I was a pack of Marlboro cigarettes for Halloween. In the 6th grade, I made 2 Halloween costumes, a 3-legged person and a laundry basket (one for school and one for a party). Next was 7th grade. I was Joan of Arc for a social studies project. Next came a belly dancer's costume completely from scratch... no pattern, when I was 17. Then I made Catwoman, based on the 2nd comic book version of the character, when I was 18. I also helped to make other Batman characters for my friends and we all wore it to the opening of Batman that fall. That began my tradition of attending opening night movies in costume. I have also made Senator Padme's white, torn battle outfit, Senator Padme's black leather corset-outfit from her date with Anakin, Susan Ivonova from Babylon 5, a Jedi outfit, several Ren Faire outfits, a bounty hunter from post-apocolyptic sci-fi future that my friends tell me could double as a gray-side or dark Jedi outfit, and a Lady Pirate costume, plus a couple others that I can't remember right now. I wore my Slave Leia outfit while I camped in line for the opening of Episode 1. I wore it the night before tickets went on sale and during the entire opening day. I was in line for 15 days (I was 2nd in line). I also wore it to Star Wars Weekend in Orlando at Universal Studios (where they attempted to censor me... check my website for the story!). I wore white Padme for the opening of Episode 2 and the rest for either Halloween or parties. 3) What's your earliest memory of seeing Return of the Jedi? I can't remember the first time I saw it, but I know I was there in the theaters in 1983. I just always "knew" the movie. 4) When did you get your first "metal bikini" and what drove you to it? I am a filmmaker and have a flair for costuming, although I am not a "costumer", I am a camera operator and electrician. When my friends and I decided to camp out for 2 weeks to see EP1, I had already began the trend of attending movies in costume, so it was only natural to dress for our favorite movie! I chose the metal bikini because I knew no one else would have one like it! 5) What is your favorite memory of appearing as Slave Leia? A) Being stopped for autographs. B) Being recognised as Slave Leia out of costume and 3,000 miles away. 6) Any final words? Visit my website at www.theinnbetween.net for more pictures, both of Star Wars and my other costumes. (If the site is down, please check back soon!) Thanks Joreth! |
