| 1) Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and background. I believe that Balrogs don't have wings, and I am usually found wearing some sort of hat and quoting Monty Python. I'm currently a student at York University in the Bachelor of Design program. I love to draw, fence and make chainmail. I'm strongly influenced and inspired by ancient history, mythology and a good assortment of books and movies when it comes to art and costume making. Ever since I was little, I was the kid who "dressed different" and 'til today I still like to wear things people may not see everyday! 2) How long have you been costuming? What kinds of experiences have you had? I have been costuming for as long as I can remember; Halloween always took/takes a huge role in my life, not to mention dressing up for any everyday situation. I've almost always had a part in making costumes, including my Darth Vader outfits (whom I have costumed as 3 times), my ANH Leia costume and my boyfriend's award-winning Ghostbuster costume. I was the costume designer (and one of the "makers") for a local drama group's (HorseHead Theatre) production of Alice in Wonderland. I also make clothing for what I call "everyday-wear" (medieval-LotR inspired dresses). I still continue to make Halloween costumes for myself and my boyfriend; this year we have a couple of costumes lined up, including this Princess Slave Leia and Han, as well as Zelda and Link! 3) What's your earliest memory of seeing Return of the Jedi? I saw ROTJ when I was around 7; my dad had tried to get me to watch A New Hope when I was about 6 years old, but I yelled at him to turn it off once I saw a scary, tall man in black break a man's neck and throw him against a wall. A year later I decided to actually watch it, LOVED it and was thrilled to discover there were two more movies, which I watched in turn. I really liked Leia's character and admired how she managed to kill the disgusting Mr. Hutt. Yet that Halloween, I went as my dark hero - Darth Vader; none of the kids knew who I was, but all of the parents loved my costume! 4) When did you get your first "metal bikini" and what drove you to it? I made my first "metal" bikini recently, in a VERY short amount of time, from the encouragement of friends and fans of my ANH Leia costume. I had to work with the materials I had available and even had to take some parts off of my other costumes, just to make this tiny one! I plan to make another one (or maybe a few more) after getting some good supplies (ie. Sculptie). 5) What is your favorite memory of appearing as Slave Leia? Although I have yet to wear it in public (Halloween party later), the friends who I've sent pics to have loved it; some even asked if I could make them one! My roomies have definately agreed that it is a sexy-and-strong costume. If this costume goes over as well as my ANH Leia did, I know there will be many great memories made. 6) If you danced for Jabba the Hutt, what song would you dance to and why? I would dance to "We Want the Funk" because it's a fun song that would add a little bit o' soul to the ol' Jabba Palace. Plus I think it would get the entire room groovin'. However, "Thriller" would be a great song to dance to if I had a whole army of Slave Leias to join me.... 7) Any final words? Every woman, everywhere, should have their own Princess Leia Metal Bikini, whether they make it or buy it, wear it at home or wear it out; "don't be a slave to the views of society, just be a Slave Leia!" :D Thanks Krissy! |
