| 1) Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and background. I'm an all-around Queen of the Geeks. I read comic books, had a paper route as a kid, love horror and sci-fi films, can quote The Simpsons for hours on end, collect toys and spend my free time running around as Princess Leia. 2) How long have you been costuming? What kinds of experiences have you had? I've been a costumer since high school starting with Renaissance/medieval faires. Over the years, I've created a pretty large collection of costumes of characters from various films and comics. Leia's the most fun and has always been my favorite. My goal is to have all 8 of Princess Leia's costumes. I'm up to 5 and currently building the Boushh disguise. My best costume experience yet was at Star Wars Celebration II. I waited all day to get Carrie Fisher's autograph. I was wearing the Death Star/Tantive IV costume. Carrie looked up and said, "Oh, it's me." I've heard other people say I have a close resemblance to Carrie, but to hear it from her was awesome! 3) What's your earliest memory of seeing Return of the Jedi? I don't remember specifically, but I can say that I saw it in the movie theater when it came out. 4) When did you get your first "metal bikini" and what drove you to it? I made my first bikini, which was more gold ribbon and Sculpy than metal. Why did I do it? I had been costuming as Leia for years and wanted to try something new. 5) What is your favorite memory of appearing as Slave Leia? I wore my bikini to a sci-fi con and went to see Kenny Baker's talk on his film experiences. In the middle of his talk, mid-sentence no less, Kenny looked up and said, "Leia put some clothes on." When I went to get his autograph at CIII while wearing my Endor village dress, I mentioned that I had met him before in Ohio. He looked at me in the eyes and said, "I remember you - I see you finally put some clothes on." It was hilarious! 6) If you danced for Jabba the Hutt, what song would you dance to and why? Leia never danced for Jabba; why would I? 7) Any final words? Many of the costumes that I've made are pictured at www.flickr.com/photos/captainsparrow Thanks Lisa! |
