| 1) Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and background. I'm known in the costuming world as SL-7165, which is my membership number in the 501st Legion; I am affiliated with the Dune Sea Garrison, in Phoenix, AZ. I'm also part of the developing 501st Imperial Services Organization (ISO), based on the model of the USO girls during WWII. 2) How long have you been costuming? What kinds of experiences have you had? I started costuming almost three years ago with the 501st Legion, so almost all are Star Wars related. My first was the black corset Padme costume from Star Wars, Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Then came the white battle-damaged Padme costume, also from Episode II. Then I created the costume for Visas Marr, who is a dark side character from the video game Knights of the Old Republic: The Sith Lords. This Slave Leia costume is the most recent addition. Pictures of all my costumes can be found on my page, www.myspace/sl7165. All of my experiences have been fantastic; it's great fun to create a costume and people love to see Star Wars come to life in front of them! 3) What's your earliest memory of seeing Return of the Jedi? It's funny - I don't consciously remember actually watching the movie (even though I know I did - I was certainly old enough when it first came out!). But since I joined the 501st, I've seen that movie - all of 'em - more times than I can count!! 4) When did you get your first "metal bikini" and what drove you to it? I just recently got my Slave Leia costume and I commissioned it from Carey Hawkins, who did a magnificent job. I've had a hand in designing and making some or all of every other costume I have, but I knew I wanted to leave this one to an expert! She had many different options, but I chose to just trust her with the whole thing. Her work is great. Once I got used to wearing that bikini top, it was fantastic!! 5) What is your favorite memory of appearing as Slave Leia? This Halloween 2007 - my debut! Since the 501st is a charity organization, we costume at toy drives, children's hospitals, etc., so it's always very important for us to be in "kid-appropriate" costumes. Halloween and conventions are really the only place were we can put on costumes for ourselves (more adult-oriented or customized in some way or whatever), so I knew this was my chance. Various people in my garrison have tried to get me to do the Slave Leia costume since I first joined, but I always refused. I finally felt like I was ready! My boyfriend agreed to put together a matching Han Solo, so it was time!!! My garrison spends Halloween night all together in costume at Mill Avenue in Tempe, AZ, and I sure surprised everyone when I showed up - I think there were a few people who didn't even know who I was when I first got there (and they've known me for three years!). It was a great experience, surrounded by Han Solo, Darth Vader, Darth Maul, a crew of Storm & Clone Troopers, and a crew of Mandalorians. The pics posted here are from that fun night! 6) If you danced for Jabba the Hutt, what song would you dance to and why? Easy. Michael Jackson, "You Got Me Working Day and Night"! *wink* 7) Any final words? I'm glad I finally took the plunge!!! Thanks Marcella! |
