| 1) Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and background. My name is Mary Farah, and I'm a 33 year old. I work as a translator (Eng-BraPortuguese). I'm married (for the second time) and I have 4 cats. :-) I'm a big Star Wars fan (and also J.R.R. Tolkien fan). I was part of the crew that organizes the Sao Paulo Jedi Council (www.conselhosp.com.br - in Portuguese). I also like Japanese anime. Nowadays I'm president of the Brazillian Tolkiendili Federation (The federation of the Tolkien's fan groups in Brasil). 2) How long have you been costuming? What kinds of experiences have you had? Since 2000, I started with the Bikini in a convention in Sao Paulo called JediaMania. I won the contest there. So, in the end of the same year, I used the costume in Rio de Janeiro, at the national convention called JediCon. And after that, I didn't stop anymore..... *smile* After that, it came the Tolkien fantasy parties. And so, Tolkien costumes. :-) I like wearing costumes very much. It's like showing a bit of the passion we have by the character that we are representing and I really don't mind to be the "center" of all attention. Mainly when I use the bikini, that people consider so "erotic" (I hear some jokes and insinuations sometimes, but I simply don't care about it). 3) What's your earliest memory of seeing Return of the Jedi? It was in 1983 (I guess) when my uncle took me to the cinema to see "a movie that you will never forget", he said. And he was right. I never forgot all that scenes and in 1999 when we had our first Star Wars convention in Brasil, some dreams came true. 4) When did you get your first "metal bikini" and what drove you to it? In 2000, I was a member of the crew from Sao Paulo Jedi Council and we were planning the JediCon 2000. Everybody was telling about fantasies and so I said: "I will wear Leia's Bikini...". Some said I was crazy. The made some jokes and asked my husband (my first husband) and he said that he would be very proud of me (he is also a Star Wars fan). What drove me to it? I wanted to wear a costume never used before. And sure, to "shock" and "surprise" everybody. Leia is the character I love the most. I wanted to "represent" her so beautiful and female as she is. :-) 5) What is your favorite memory of appearing as Slave Leia? The expression on people's faces when I appeared wearing the bikini at JediMania in 2000. Some women were jealous (I could feel it!). Most of the men were wishing for me (I didn't care about it, I was married). And all Star Wars fans that came to me and congratulated me about the costume. I was a "dream come true" moment.... I was Leia at that moment, I could see it in their eyes! :-) 6) If you danced for Jabba the Hutt, what song would you dance to and why? OUGH... Dance to Jabba? EGHT. Well, okay.... a slave has no choice anyway... I would dance to whatever he asked me to. Otherwise I would be the next meal for the Rancor.......:)))) 7) Any final words? Congratulations for the site. It's really nice to see other women wearing the costume. :-) Thanks Mary! |
