1)  Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and background.

Hi, my name is Nicki and I am studying Elementary Ed with a minor in Peace studies (so I can do humanitarian work in my summer vacations) at CCSU.  I also ride for the equestrian team and am counting down the days til I can buy my first horse!  I work at the Disney Store at my local mall as a part-time manager (so school full time work 32 - 38 hours per week).  I am also a proud member of the 501st "Conn Squad" or CTG.  I have a lot on my plate, but I like it that way - less time to get into trouble I guess.

2)  How long have you been costuming?  What kinds of experiences have you had?

I started costuming when I was a Freshman in high school (so about 7 years).  I began with a medieval gown for a project for school.  It took forever, so I ended up wearing it to a ren faire.  That lead to me making more and more historically accurate ren garb.  I made my junior prom dress, and now I make and alter my own clothes ALL THE TIME (drives my mom and boyfriend crazy!!!).  I also took a stage make-up class in high school.  I really love gore, wounds, and battle scars.  Now with the CTG, I started to dabble into prop building, and we are always working on improving my first Slave Leia.  The hardest parts of costuming for me are 1- finding the initial time (once I start it's hard to stop) and 2- since I am vegan it's hard to find screen accurate boots and things and still follow my morals....

3)  What's your earliest memory of seei
ng Return of the Jedi?

Hmmm...   that's tough.  All of the 501st guys make fun of me because I saw Space Balls first and finally at ten or so decided to watch the Star Wars trilogy to see the basis for this great movie!

4)  When did you get your first "metal bikini" and what drove you to it?

I was looking for another project to do to keep busy over the winter break, and Episode III was coming out so I could wear something this ridiculous and "over the top" to the premiere.  Unfortunately my first try failed miserably (quite the learning experience) and luckily on the Yahoo Group a woman was selling her kit for a price any college kid couldn't refuse!!!

5)  What is your favorite memory of appearing as Slave Leia?

Actually, a few weeks ago was One Man Star Wars in Hartford and the 501st was there.  (They let me wear Slave Leia to the events 1- because I worked so hard on it and 2- they love to see me in it   ;-P ).  After the show, a woman approached me and asked me to pose for a picture holding her son's favorite t-shirt.  Her son is currently in Iraq fighting this "war", so anything for the troops!  To be honest, afterwards it almost brought a tear to my eye...   I do enjoy surprising the 15 to 30 guys with kisses on the cheek during pics!  Boys blushing....   *sigh*   I get to be someone else in the bikini - it's great!!

6)  If you danced for Jabba the Hutt, what song would you dance to and why?

"Pour Some Sugar on Me".  Great stripper song, and I saw Def Lepard perform live.

7)  Any final words?

I am so proud of all the Slave Leias who bear it all for SW, fun, and the attention!!!  It takes guts.

Thanks Nicki!
