| 1) Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and background. 28 years old, I live in the Tampa Bay area. Full time job is a Software Quality Analyst for a web developing company. My hobbies include photography, music, graphic editing, rollerblading, reading, sewing and swimming. 2) How long have you been costuming? What kinds of experiences have you had? I have been costuming for years. Loved it, but never really knew there were "con" events for such things 'til about a year ago. Halloween is my favorite holiday and I have yet to repeat a costume. I would have to say the best experience I have had was at my first "con" event last year, which was ScreamFest. My friend Sharon took me to get ready for DragonCon '08 and made a Resident Evil costume (Alice - Red Dress) for me. I was hesitant at first. Didn't think anyone would know who I was. But the amount of fanfare I got from that costume walking around and the photo opportunities people requested of me was amazing! It really helped me feel more comfortable walking around and I really did end up meeting and making some new friends and enjoying myself! 3) What's your earliest memory of seeing Return of the Jedi? Probably when my parents took me to see it in the theater. I was born in '79.... so I was very, very young. But I remember seeing it and just being awe-struck and amazed with it. After that I asked my dad tons of questions and he introduced me to the previous movies, their soundtracks (he had them on LP, which I still have and covet), the books that continue the saga, etc. I enjoyed and was so engulfed in it, my parents even made me an R2-D2 cake with the cake pan (which I also still have). I watch the entire series atleast twice a year. Yes, I am obsessed with it. LOL 4) When did you get your first "metal bikini" and what drove you to it? I was a senior in high school and went to a small school. They were re-releasing the Star Wars Trilogy back into the movie theater, so a bunch of us decided it would be cool to dress up as Star Wars characters on Halloween. There were a TON of Leias.... but only one Slave Leia - ME. :-) I guess I was the only one who noticed she wears more than one costume. :-) I decided in 2007 that I was going to go as her again for Halloween. I went and the costume was a HUGE hit. So big, I will be wearing it for DragonCon 2008. 5) What is your favorite memory of appearing as Slave Leia? Probably just the shocked looks on my friends faces when they saw me in the costume at the party. LOL None of my friends have ever seen me that scantily dressed and since I actually do wear my hair up most of the time anyway, a lot of people thought the hair was real (it wasn't). It was a great time... and from what I hear, I had a little fan group as well at the party. 6) If you danced for Jabba the Hutt, what song would you dance to and why? Right now? Probably Spoon's "Don't You Evah" or the Jon Spencer "Blues Explosion". But ask me tomorrow and that would change... my music taste is very vast. 7) Any final words? Be yourself always and enjoy yourself and your life fully! If you're happy in costume... WEAR them! I was too shy about this for too long... something I am happily making up for now! :-) Thanks Rita! |
