1)  Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and background.

I'm a 30 year old transplant from Boston, MA to the Dallas, TX area.  I divide my time between work, riding horses, dancing, sewing costumes and playing with my two pugs and also try to find some time for my fiance.  I am an active member of the SCA (www.sca.org) and I am the Baronial Equestrian Marshal for the Barony of the Steppes in the Kingdom of Ansteorra.  I sew my own costumes, both historical and a lot of movie recreations; you can see my website at www.crimsonvision.net.  I also recently became the President of the newly formed Dallas / Fort Worth chapter of the InternationalCostumersGuild.

2)  How long have you been costuming?  What kinds of experiences have you had?

I started costuming when I was 13 after I asked for a leather jacket for Christmas and got a sewing machine instead.  I had always loved playing dress-up so it was a natural progression to start making costumes.  After I came back from an overseas tour of duty with the Army's Military Police, I started attending the local Rocky Horror show in Cambridge, MA.  Soon after that, I became a cast member and started making my own costumes....    then friend's costumes....   then other cast's costumes and it just went on from there.

I have usually had really good experiences with costuming.  The costuming community is a really close knit bunch and very supportive.  Occasionally we get a troll from the outside making fun of us playing dress-up, but we decided they are secretly jealous and have locked themselves in their basement.   ;-)

3)  What's your earliest memory of seeing
Return of the Jedi?

I first saw the movie when I was very young;  I remember being hypnotized by everything I saw.  I remember going outside to the park and having lightsaber fights with the rest of the neighborhood kids when we got home from the movies.

4)  When did you get your first "metal bikini" and what drove you to it?

DragonCon 2006 was the first time I wore the bikini having finally completed it only days before.  I bought mine from Darcienne, whom I have long wanted to commission but was never able to until now.  She was WONDERFUL to work with and does a top notch product.  We had a little bit of a problem with the first bra as when I got it, well, it was too small.  Although my fiance seemed to love it, we traded up for the bigger size and piece of mind at the con.  As for what drove me to it, I think it was almost a sort of mutual dare that my friend Jenni and I gave each other.  I can't remember how or why the conversation started about it;  all I know is that at the end of it, we had decided that we were going to wear the bikini to DragonCon 2006.

5)  What is your favorite memory of appearing as Slave Leia?

I've only worn it once, so I don't have many memories;  but I loved the looks on my friend's and fellow bikini wearers faces when I came down to the photoshoot.  I had kept it a secret from them all and boy, were they shocked!  LOL  I hope to get my courage up to wear it once again in the future.

6)  If you danced for Jabba the Hutt, what song would you dance to and why?

"Fire Woman" by The Cult.  It's my theme song and seems rather appropriate for such a thing.

7)  Any final words?

I hope my wearing of the bikini inspires other ladies that may not be a size 2 to feel good about their own bodies.  It was rather a stretch for me and let me tell you;  standind in a room with 30 tanned and toned little Leia's will make even the most self confident woman a little self conscious!  But once again, all the ladies were very supportive and encouraging.  So in the end, it was a good experience.  If this is something you want to do....    then do it and make sure you have fun while you are at it!!
