1)  Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and background.

As a youngling, I spent much of my time fending off boredom on a Midwest farm.  I entertained myself with watching cartoons, reading, writing, drawing, dancing, horseback riding, collecting, and making stuff.  My high school sweetheart Nathan turned me on to comic books, Star Wars movies, and so much more.  Nathan came to San Diego two years ago for his first San Diego Comic Con International, and we promptly moved here to avoid missing another one.  Since then, our lives continue to enrich and intertwine;  we love our home and enjoy convention-going, costuming, biking, and surfing together.

2)  How long have you been costuming?  What kinds of experiences have you had?

My mom and I used to make my Halloween and dance costumes (during which time I have to admit, candy and awards were my primary motivation).  Nathan and I costumed together with friends one Halloween a few years ago as Leela and Bender, which was challenging and fun.  Seeing the Halloween Parade when we lived in NYC was fantastic -- even more so when costuming together as Mr. and Mrs. Fantastic.  Of course, my feet always get the worst of it as I seem inclined towards costumes with boots.  Walking around breaking in the bikini and boots wasn't quite the breezy cakewalk I had envisioned after 14 hours in cool spring weather, but with the fun atmosphere it was totally a worthwhile learning experience.  From what I gather from other slaves and costumers I'm not alone in the painful footwear department, and I guess I wouldn't have felt quite right about being a slave without suffering at least a little.

3)  What's your earliest memory of seeing
Return of the Jedi?

Catching bits and pieces between making out with Nathan at sixteen.  An irrepressible Leia in the bikini was impossible to miss.  At the time, I may not have known the difference between a Wookie and an Ewok...    but I knew that if there was a Star Wars costume that I wanted to wear, the bikini would definately be it.

4)  When did you get your first "metal bikini" and what drove you to it?

We were stoked to see Leia's bikini itself featured among other awesome props in all of their glory at the California Science Center Star Wars Exhibit earlier this year.  A couple of weeks before Star Wars Celebration IV, we were browsing this site to decided if we could afford a bikini for me to wear and accompany Nathan (as Han Solo).  After all, we wanted to celebrate Star Wars' 30th anniversary in style.  When we mentioned this to Eric (an amazingly talented friend Nathan met during the Episode III red carpet premiere), he kindly sent us his own "metal" bikini pieces to get us started.  We then had about two tight weeks to rush and wrap bikini production -- Nathan didn't even have a chance to spend time modifying his costume, until the following couple of months leading up to San Diego Comic Con International.

5)  What is your favorite memory of appearing as Slave Leia?

Star Wars Celebration IV....   because nothing could have prepared me for the wonderful whirlwind that it was.  Celebrating with my boyfriend and so many other people sharing common interests and hobbies was truly a unique treat.

6)  If you danced for Jabba the Hutt, what song would you dance to and why?

Wouldn't we like to know?  Unfortunately, I'm afraid Jabba doesn't grant his slaves options.  Permission to select the background music during your own torture may kill the mood or prove to be a self-torture of it's own....    if Mr. Blonde had given him an option, would the cop from Reservoir Dogs have known what station or song to choose while having his ear sliced off?  Hehe, besides, I'm lucky that Nathan hasn't strangled me with my own chain...   I drive him crazy enough with overplaying our Star Wars mix CD as it is.  Jabba would not be so kind.    @(^.*)@

7)  Any final words?

Many dear and warm thanks to everyone who assisted, encouraged, supported, and accompanied us through these memorable events!  We hope to see old friends and make more new ones next time around.  Nathan, a million thanks for helping me piece it all together...   you're the best and scruffiest-looking nerf-herder, and I love you (this you know).  Eric, thank you so much again for getting the ball rolling -- I really admire your work, and we deeply appreciate all of the tips and pointers.
Jamin, thank you for being an excellent host and providing a dedicated, growing network of helpful and relevant information to keep the fan and Force strong in us all.

Thanks Trista!
