1)  Tell us a little bit about yourself, your hobbies and background.

Well, I have moved on from science fiction to being an otaku - totally devoted to anime (and share this obsession with my daughters, who are 20, 18, and nearly 15).  I became totally obsessed with the series Inuyasha about five years ago, and have started writing fanfiction and doing fan art from it.  One of my stories was named as a featured fanfic on Mediaminer.org and I have won quite a few awards on various awards lists.  My art has actually improved quite a bit since starting to draw fanart, although I have a long way to go (http://urd-chan.deviantart.com)

2)  How long have you been costuming?  What kinds of experiences have you had?

Gee, I loved working on my own costumes when I was a kid, helping with my own Halloween costumes.  When I first got married, I started making them again, and of course, when my daughters were born, Halloween became a big thing for us.  All three daughters were active in dance, so I ended up being a sewing mom for their recitals and Nutcracker performances.  As our interests moved into anime, we became die-hard cosplayers.  My latest project, which is for my middle daughter, is in the works and I hope to have it done in a week or two.  As one costume is finished, we're already planning the next.

3)  What's your earliest memory of see
ing Return of the Jedi?

Midnight, opening night - after pre-buying the tickets a couple of days in advance and still standing in line several hours before the theater would let us in - had to get good seats (and we were some of the first into the theater).

4)  When did you get your first "metal bikini" and what drove you to it?

Well, my one (and only) "metal bikini" was just something I wanted to do after seeing Return of the Jedi - and was enough encouragement for me to stay on my diet and keep up with my Jane Fonda workout every night.  Guess it paid off.  I was working as the secretary for the Engineering Department at the local Purdue University campus, and had been invited by the student groups in the department to their annual Halloween party, which was practically infamous.  I showed up with a black cape and Darth Vader mask over my actual costume, and really surprised everyone when I revealed who I was and what I was wearing.  Since the majority of the students in that department were guys, it was definately a hit (and something I had trouble living down in the office for the next couple of months).

5)  What is your favorite memory of appearing as Slave Leia?

That Halloween party....   Of course, I was totally embarrassed when a couple of the guys pulled me on stage and had me model it in the spotlight.  I was pretty shy back then.....

6)  If you danced for Jabba the Hutt, what song would you dance to and why?

Nah, I wouldn't dance for Jabba.  Now, Luke and Han....   I'd gladly dance for them.  Would a lap dance work?  Don't really need music - I have a pretty good sense of rhythm myself.  (Gawd, I just can't stop being a pervert....   )

7)  Any final words?

To be that young again.  You can bet I'd be remaking that costume and really making it look good!

Thanks Urd-chan!
